What are Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs)?
STI’s are infections which are passed from one person to another during unprotected sexual or genital to genital contact. STIs are caused by micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses or parasites. STIs can affect areas of the body other than the genitals. They do not always cause signs or symptoms.
Navigation video series on sexual and reproductive health for young women in the ACT
Women’s Health Matters has developed a suite of videos to help young ACT women learn how to access local services for STI prevention, testing and treatment and where they can go for reliable trusted advice and support. The videos also explain women’s rights in accessing healthcare.
Sexual and reproductive health is a significant issue for younger ACT women. Women have the right to respectful, enjoyable, and safe sexual relationships (free of coercion), safe sex with decision-making control over reproductive choices, and timely access to appropriate health care and services.
The videos are in response to our local research with younger women and service providers in the ACT in 2018 , which showed the need for understanding rights to healthcare and information on how to access and use sexual and reproductive health services.
Thank you to the Canberra Health Services, Canberra Sexual Health Centre and Women’s Health Service, The Junction, and Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT who collaborated with us on creating these videos.
