Women’s Health Matters is excited to welcome Dr Tayyaba Malik as our Research Officer. Here is a little about Tayyaba and what she brings to the role:
“I recently joined Women’s Health Matters as Research Officer. I hold a PhD in Anthropology from the Australian National University. My doctoral research examined women’s activism within Islamist political movements, exploring gender, power and political participation. I am particularly interested in how structural inequalities shape women’s lives, opportunities and access to resources.
I feel grateful to be working with Women’s Health Matters, where I bring my background in gender research and social analysis to support evidence-informed policy and advocacy. I am passionate about addressing structural inequalities and contributing to meaningful change in women’s health and wellbeing”.
Drawing on data from the Survey of Women’s Health in the ACT, Tayyaba has been working on topics including local women’s health information needs, the relationship between violence and health, and experiences of seeking help for pelvic pain conditions.
The research team also recently prepared a submission to a parliamentary inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family and sexual violence and suicide.
