Health in My Language update – March 2026

Women’s Health Matters are pleased to be co-hosting a Women’s Health Hub event with BreastScreen ACT on Thursday 19 March. This free event is intended to help reduce some of the barriers experienced by women from migrant and refugee communities when accessing health services and supports, by having a large number of different, free services gather in one place to answer questions and share resources about the support and services they offer. You can find more details about who will be at the event and what to expect here.

The Health in My Language (HIML) team are well into our current phase of the program which has now been running for 3 years at WHM! We’re in the process of finalising our session schedule for March and are now looking at April – June, if you’d like free health education sessions delivered for you, a group of friends or clients, please reach out!
Sessions we are currently delivering include:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health (Contraceptive Choices, Pregnancy Choices, Safer Sex and Understanding Menopause)
  • Cancer Screenings (Breast, Bowel, Cervical and Lung)
  • Mental Health (‘Let’s Talk Mental Health’ and ‘Navigating local mental health system’ sessions)

In other HIML news, our Bilingual Health Educator (BHE) Bing is presenting at the national BreastScreen Australia conference 4-6 March in Brisbane. Her presentation will outline the successes of our bilingual health education work done with the Chinese community in the ACT.

Our staff have also been actively engaging with the community, chatting to hundreds of women and gender diverse people at the hugely successful Canberra Multicultural Festival and market days at ANU and UC.
