WHM’s Bilingual Health Education team has been busy developing new and engaging health education sessions for the community. In November, the team began delivering free sessions on mental health and cancer screening.
We’re thrilled to be bringing back the cancer screening topics after seeing such strong community interest and participation last year. This time, we’ve expanded our focus – in addition to breast, bowel, and cervical cancer screening, we’ll also be sharing information on lung cancer and the importance of early screening.
Our new mental health sessions will provide practical information and resources to help community members understand and look after their mental wellbeing. These sessions aim to create open, culturally safe conversations about mental health and support.
These new additions join our existing session topics for community education including Contraceptive Choices, Pregnancy Choices, Safer Sex and Understanding Menopause.
This year, the HIML team have run 43 sessions by request, with sessions delivered at ACT Libraries, Red Cross ACT, Navitas, YCWA, and ACT Child and Family Centres.
We look forward to continuing our education sessions in 2026 and welcome requests from community organisations.
